Policy Development

During this year the B.O.M. have developed and reviewed the following policies;
Child Protection (Review),
Health and Safety (Review), Special Education Needs (new) Student Council Policy (new), Religious Ed policy (new). We wish to thank all the members of the school community who took part in this work.


School Ethos

The Sacrament of Reconciliation took place on 27th February and First Holy Communion on the 9th May. The Board wish to thank all parents who helped out on these occasions with catering, decorating the hall and grounds. A Diocesan Advisor visited the school in May and was pleased to note the school's Catholic ethos and identity.

Achievements and participant pupils
The Board wish to congratulate the following students for their achievements during the past academic year;
All students, for their work towards achieving the STEM Award for excellence.
Senior class debating team who represented the school at a series of interschool debates
A team coached by Adam Gornik, represented the school at the Leinster Schools Community Games chess competition in Malahide.
Sophie Quinn, Danny O'Shea, Leentje Van den Bergh, Emma Farrell, Greg Gornik, Clíodhna Coleman, Isabel Gilsenan and Sarah Farrell who were this years Write a Book winners.
Tom Crossingham who won gold in the long jump, Frankie Crossingham who won silver in the 80m sprint, Angelica Hunt who won silver in the 80m sprint, Joshua Kenny who won silver in the 100m sprint and Sean McDonald who won bronze in the 50 m sprint at the North Wicklow Cumann na mBunscoil Track and Field event.

The Senior class hosted a problem solving Maths Fair in November and all classes from 1st to 6th hosted stands in the Science Fair in April.
Classes from 3rd to 6th hosted a European Day in * as part of our successful application for the Blue Flag Award.

A Friendship Week was held in January.
A series of school assemblies were introduced this year to showcase work done by the children and discuss items at whole school level

Training/ /Building/ Maintenance
A talk by Margaret Mc Garrigle on the use of Restorative practices as an approach to conflict resolution and dealing with incidents was made available to all parents at the Sept. Welcome meeting.
Brighid Cullen attended a manual handling refresher course.
The Dept. of Education and Skills has approved our application to replace all the windows in the older part of the school and this work will be carried out over the summer.
The Board wishes to thank all the members of the Parent body who volunteered in November to paint the railing and window sills around the school.
Commonwealth Financial Services Network volunteers financed and built a playground and did painting and gardening tasks around the school.

Parents' Association

The Board wishes to thank the Parents' Association for all their hard work this school year; including weekly management of the school library, Santa's visit and organising the Book Fair. Fund-raising included running successful events such as the musical evening by Caterina Lemoni, Moya O'Grady and David O'Doherty, the Clothes Sale, D Kube, Ladies lunch, Liberties recycling and Cake sales. Voluntary contribution; The Board also wishes to thank all the families for their continued voluntary Contribution this year.

Curricular Development


The school continues to engage in a School Self Evaluation process. The focus this year has been extended to English in addition to Maths. We looked at oral expression in English.

Other curriculum related events included History week, Seachtain na Gaeilge, visits by the Dental Hygiene nurse and the Write a Book Project.

A literacy Power Hour was introduced for pupils in 1st and 2nd Class, which focuses on phonetics, word decoding, reading fluency and reading for comprehension.

Staffing

The Board wishes to thank Emma Grimes, Aedemar Cooke and Sinéad Leahy for their work in the school this year. We also wish to thank Angie Nolan for her dedication and work to the school over the past3 years. The Board wishes to thank all staff for their hard work and contribution to the school during the year.
The job sharing arrangement between Declan Curry and Emma King will continue for another academic year.
