Write A Book

Each year all pupils in the school enter the Write a Book Competition run by the Blackrock Education Centre.

Many genres are represented- biographies, factual information books, adventure fiction, recipe books, quiz books, comics and many more.

Each child who submits a book receives a certificate in recognition of their work.
Books are judged by teachers in other schools. One pupil from each class is given a Special Merit Award, presented at FitzPatrick’s Hotel, Killiney. Three others in each class are awarded a ‘Highly Commended’ status.

A visiting author presents certificates to all children who have entered the competition.
In the past, we have been lucky to have writers of children’s fiction, adult fiction, travel writers and poets. They have spoken to the children about their own approach to the creative process and encouraged the children in their writing. Some well-known names include Cathy Kelly, Craig Doyle, Peter Regan, John Newman, Katie Donovan, Gorgon Snell, poet Nell Regan and documentary writer Alan Gilsenan.
